consultation
CMS
works with the designer and other team members to develop the fountain
concept with respect to display characteristics, technical
feasibility, pool finishes, architectural details, lighting, utility
requirements and costs.
coordination
Fountain
design is inherently prototypical, and requires thorough coordination
with designers and their consultants. Our work ensures
that structural requirements, pipe routing, and utilities are fully
addressed.
mock-ups
When
appropriate, CMS will design, conduct, or supervise mock-ups of the
proposed water effects.
Although
CMS has many years of practical experience, observation,
and sharing of information with others in the industry, the behavior
of decorative water remains very unpredictable. There is no body of
knowledge or study that can address every combination of factors. Evaluation
of factors such as character, spray, visibility, architectural elements,
and sound are not just measurable absolutes they are also
a matter of site and client tolerance. We believe that our long experience
with water is demonstrated best by knowing what we dont know and
then deciding whether or not a mock-up is warranted. While every project
is unique, mock-ups are not implemented for the majority of our projects.
Beyond
testing, mock-ups can also serve to demonstrate an unusual or expensive
effect to a client when other examples cannot be found.
construction
documents
We produce discrete
sets of fountain mechanical and electrical drawings
as well as corresponding specification subsections. Our documentation
is unparalleled in its comprehensiveness and clarity. More than thirty
years
of experience has provided abundant validation for this approach,
resulting in improved coordination, significantly reduced site visits
and requests for clarification. CMS utilizes a highly customized and
sophisticated set of CAD menus and functions developed specifically
for our work.
construction
administration
Our services include
a review of fountain mechanical and electrical submittals, and assistance
with clarifications and change orders. We provide on-site review of
construction, assistance with adjustments, troubleshooting, and instruction
of maintenance personnel. Site visits
are always followed with a comprehensive report and punch list.
maintenance
and operation manuals
Although
our specifications call for the contractor to assemble a binder of the
supplied components, CMS offers a Maintenance and Operation Manual which
addresses the water feature as a complete system. Project-specific chapters
covering general adjustments, aesthetic considerations, safety, water
treatment, control system operation, maintenance schedules, and troubleshooting
are included. A typical manual is composed of 80 to 120 pages.
design
/ supply
CMS maintains solid
relationships with some of the best specialty component vendors in the
industry. Where project circumstances may warrant it, CMS will arrange
for both design and material supply. This
can simplify and reduce our documentation and control construction costs,
resulting in a more economical package.
